The Tenerife Landscape | ||
Situated slightly north of the Tropic of
Cancer and almost at the centre of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is a triangular
shaped island that lays some 300km from the northwest coast of Africa. It covers
an area of 2,034 km2 and on approaching Tenerife from either sea or air; it is
impossible not to notice Mount Teide, which at 3,718 metres above sea level, is
the highest point in the whole of Spain.For more information check out our

It is generally thought that Tenerife and the Canary Islands were formed around
7 million years ago when volcanic eruptions were a daily activity throughout the
world. Rising from the seabed with Mount Teide leading the charge, several
smaller islands were pushed up above the sea level to create one large landmass.
Areas that we now know as Teno, Anaga and Adeje were some of these smaller
islands and they later joined together to form the Dorsal Mountain range.Learn more

| History of Tenerife | |||
Very little is known
about Tenerife prior to the 14th century, but its history since 1500 is well
documented. During the early 1400's the Spanish Conquistadors arrived, and for
almost 100 years, there were daily confrontations with the local population of
Guanches. But the small island of Tenerife dates back several millions of years,
spoken about by the famous Plato speaking of Atlantis, the continent that sunk beneath
the ocean floor. Find out more about Tenerife
